Samara’s Mission

Samara Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life of Vermont’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens. With our donors and other partners, we collaborate to build and protect the dynamic capital required to advance this mission now and in the future.

Hello, are you out there?

Over the last few years, Samara has collected more than 700 names of folks (yours included) who told us they’d like to receive an e-newsletter from us. Lots of names…very few e-newsletters published. Oops.

We think that’s about to change. We’ve got Euan Bear (former editor of Out In the Mountains) on the Samara Foundation Board now; and the new Samara President is a former journalist herself (spent six months writing wedding, engagement and death announcements for the Baltimore Sun in her early twenties). So between the two of them, we’re expecting to provide a pretty decent forum for the give and take of news, ideas and conversation.

New Year’s Revolution—What’s Your Gay Agenda?

It’s important to us that Seedlings becomes an interactive newsletter. So let’s start right out by asking you a question: What 3 items are on the top of your Gay Agenda for 2007? Could be to transition to all purple underwear. Could be to give a Samara brochure to everyone in your neighborhood. Could be to volunteer at an AIDS service organization. Could be to stop yourself from trying to pass as straight at least once a week.  Funny, serious, outrageous, heart-rending.

E-mail your answers to suzanne@samarafoundation.org. We’ll collect the best and share them! –The sooner the better—others may want to adapt your list in time for their New Year’s Resolutions!

Feedback: Show Us the Money(trail)

Perhaps our most important duty at Samara is to stay relevant and in tune with our community. We need to be responsive as the LGBT landscape changes.

So daydream for a moment, then let us know: if you had $1 million to give away (if only we did!) to improve the quality of life for Vermont’s LGBT citizens, how would you spend it?

E-mail your answers to suzanne@samarafoundation.org. We’ll report back!
