Elizabeth Bennett (Brattleboro)
2001 Scholarship Recipient
Brattleboro Union High School, Brattleboro
Libby
has devoted a great deal of her time both in and out of school
in activities that provide outreach to her peers. She is currently
the only youth representative on the Vermont Department of Health's
HIV Prevention Community Planning Group. Libby also volunteers
as a peer outreach worker on the H.I.T. Squad (Helpful Intervention
for Teens) at the Brattleboro Area AIDS Project and has been a
member of PRISM during her four years at Brattleboro Union High
School.
Libby also maintains an A- average, which places her in the top
20% of her class. Libby wrote in her essay that she feels that
she is a solid ally for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered,
and questioning youth. Libby told Samara that she is active in
PRISM because she believes in equal rights and treatment for all
people. She concluded by saying "It has been said that the best
way to live a fulfilling life is to have a cause and to take your
cause and try to change the world. I love that concept. It empowers
me to do the work I do, to help when I am needed, and to constantly
grow as a person." Elizabeth will be attending Smith College this
fall to study Sociology and Anthropology.
