Jacob Crumbine (Norwich)
2003 Notable Student
Hanover High School
During
the Civil Union hearings Jacob wrote in his essay that "It
frightened me to listen to a total stranger call my mother evil
because she is in love with another woman. All through my life
I have been afraid of telling people, even my friends, that she
is gay." Since that time, Jacob began talking to people about
being raised by a mother who is a lesbian. Jacob presented to
first year Dartmouth medical students, regarding teenage sexuality,
how different family situations impact teenagers' lives, how proud
he was of how he and his brother were raised by their mother and
how her being a lesbian has affected his life.
Jacob
followed that up with a presentation to the Rainbow Alliance at
Dartmouth College where he spoke about being the child of a lesbian.
He
told us "In these two talks, for the first time, I have talked
about my family situation to an audience. These talks will not
be my last. Through film, politics and public speaking, I intend
to make the world a better place for my mother and for all gay
and lesbian people."
Jacob
will be attending Dartmouth College this fall.
