Larson
Hogstrom (Killington)
2005 Scholarship Recipient
Woodstock Union High School
Larson
wrote in his scholarship essay that he believed that the first
step in social change is recognizing and changing yourself.
Larson,
a self identified ally with interest in gender variation issues,
started his school's first Gay Straight Alliance during his junior
year. He was also ambitious enough to write and receive an education
grant that brought New York Times, best selling author Chris Bohjalian
to Woodstock to speak on his book Trans-Sister Radio, gender
variation and the LGBTQ community.
Woodstock
Union High School's Director of Counseling Suzy Hallock-Bannigan
had this to say,
"Lars
is a sound investment for the future. The same humanity which
drives him to know and learn more about people in pain or transition
will surely drive him to a helping profession where he will make
a difference for countless people."
Lars
told us that he has done his best to challenge himself to embrace
diversity and at the same time challenge his community to do the
same.
Lars
will be attending Connecticut College in New London this fall.
