Chelsea Morton (East Dummerston)
2001 Scholarship Recipient
Brattleboro Union High School, Brattleboro
Chelsea
has been an active member of PRISM for the past three years. Through
PRISM, Chelsea has been able to explore her own sexuality and
discovered in herself an advocate. As an advocate, she has presented
at Brattleboro Union High School and other schools in the area
talking about the dangers of homophobia. She has also presented
to college admission's counselors explaining the struggles of
applying to college and looking for a safe environment for glbtq
youth.
Civil Unions were of great interest to Chelsea and she took action
by writing to her local representatives, voicing her support.
Chelsea told us that in eighth grade she was fortunate enough
to receive the label of being a lesbian even though she did not
consider herself to be a lesbian. She went on to say that she
has become the encyclopedia of everything about gay rights for
her friends and family. Chelsea will study nursing at Hartwick
College.
