Samara Foundation announces its 11th year of grant making.
The Samara Foundation mission is to improve the quality of life of Vermont's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens. This year, as in the past ten years, Samara seeks proposals for new or existing projects, programs and organizations that serve the LGBT community and help the Foundation achieve its mission.
The Foundation has established its priorities for the 2008 funding cycle. Samara strongly encourages this year’s applicants to address one or more of the priorities listed below (which are in no particular order). The examples are intended for clarification purposes only. Creative and new initiatives are welcome. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $4,000.
Samara seeks grant proposals that:
1. promote grassroots leadership development (e.g., training for town clerks, or student civil rights/GSA club development)
2. serve underserved geographic regions of the state (e.g., Northeast Kingdom, Rutland and Bennington Counties)
3.create healthy, inclusive communities (e.g., statewide conference on disabilities and sexuality)
4. build collaborative efforts between LGBT and non-LGBT organizations
5. seek operational support (LGBT-identified organizations only)
Additionally, while no reporting form is required, the Samara grants committee and the Samara Foundation board of directors appreciates news from organizations about how Samara funds were used.
We strongly encourage organizations serving ANY segment of the LGBT community, even if they’re not LGBT organizations, to consider applying for project support. Feel free to call the foundation office at 802.860.6236 to discuss eligibility.
Samara does NOT fund:
• Religious organizations for religious purposes,
• Political campaigns or organizations,
